Bongjeongsa Temple |
Bongjeongsa Temple is famous for Geuknakjeon Hall, the oldest wooden structure in korea.
Bong means “Phoenix”, jeong means “stay” and sa means ”temple”.
Legend goes, that in672, the monk Uisang made a paper phoenix, cast it into the air, and then decided to build the temple on the spot where it landed.
Bongjeongsa has a three story pagoda that was made in the Goryo Dynasty, Daeungjeon Hall from the early Joseon Dynasty, and Haeomgangdang Hall from the mid-Joseon, all of which give visitors the opportunity to see various styles of Korean architecture. |
